Protests to Profits! Helping Small Businesses Affected by the G20

On July 5, 2010, StartMeUp Ryerson began a project that helps the small businesses that were affected by the protests or vandalism during the weekend of the G20 summit in Toronto, Ontario. 

So many small businesses in downtown Toronto were affected by either vandalism or loss of business due to sudden closures. We wanted to help these businesses recover their lost profits and damages by providing them with marketing assistance!

Finalists for the $25 000 Slaight Communications Business Plan Competition Announced!

This years competition set a new record for the amount of submissions. With 37 plans entered into the competition it was definitely not an easy task to pick the top 5.

$25,000 Slaight Business Plan Competition Deadline and Drop-off Details

The deadline for the $25,000 Slaight Business Plan Competition is quickly approaching. All submissions are due in Hard Copy this Friday March 12 from 9:00am EST until 4:00pm EST. You must submit three (3) bound copies of your own business plan to the Student Achievement Coordinator, Ted Rogers School of Management, 55 Dundas St W., in the Ryerson Business Building TRS 1-004 located on the seventh floor.


To register for the competition send an email to BPC@startmeupryerson.com with company name, student names and student numbers.

SMU Entrepreneurs Successfully Pitch to RAN!

Christopher and Latham (fanfare founders) presented their business proposal to the members of the Ryerson Angel Network.

The group, who is decidedly excited about mentoring and funding student ventures, asked the founding team tough questions about their strategic positioning and ability to execute.

After remaining cool under pressure, fanfare was able to secure an oral agreement between several of the Angel investors to receive web development services and up to $50,000 in cash to commercialize the beta fanfare platform.
